A Happy Ending!

When the right people say the right words, good things can happen!

Today I talked to HR and mentioned some of the bullying issues I have been experiencing. I mentioned how tired it makes me at work and that I'm starting to look for work elsewhere. They were able to point me in the direction of some great resources. It turns out that Washington State Labor Department has some great anti-bullying literature.

After reviewing this, I was able to start taking steps to recognizing my aggressor and how I can move forward. I'm also now working with HR to start a training program that will alert everyone of the harms of bullying and what they can do if they are subject to, or even just witness to, bullying.

What a great day!

Girl in a Mans World

I know I'm a girl in a male dominated workplace, but sometimes the words they say when they're joking just get old.

Today they were at it again, making jokes about my skirt, my shoes, everything. I'm a girl and I still like to look nice when I go to work so that sometimes means I wear a skirt, or a cute pair of shoes. I'm always conservative with these choices but they still have to make some joke about it. It's getting old. When I mention it to my manager, she tells me I just need to deal with it, after all she had to deal with it. But is that really fair?? I don't want my daughters (or sons) to have to deal with feeling this way at work.

I hope something changes.
